'Planet of the Apps' Star: Apple Responsible for Show's Failure
Apple'south first original Boob tube testify, Planet of the Apps, wasn't exactly a breakout hit.
Now, one of the show's stars, Gary Vaynerchuk, is speaking out about why he believes it flopped. During a contempo episode of his YouTube show #AskGaryVee, the outspoken CEO and founder of digital agency VaynerMedia said Apple's marketing efforts are to blame, every bit the folks over at Concern Insider offset reported.
"I was on an Apple show, Planet of the Apps, Gwenyth [Paltrow], Will[.i.am], Jessica Alba, and me," he said. "And Apple tree didn't use me or Vayner to do the marketing and did everything wrong."
Bank check out the video below to hear Vaynerchuk'south comments about the testify, which start at around 26:00.
Vaynerchuk explained that he took a backseat during marketing meetings since he was on Apple's turf and wanted to show the Cupertino tech giant respect.
"My cheeks were bleeding profusely out of every coming together, because I was biting them," he said. "My tongue completely fell out of my mouth."
Vaynerchuk went on to say that Apple Music executive Jimmy Iovine was in those meetings and said the marketing was under control.
"Jimmy's like 'I got it, nosotros got it, we got it.' And I knew he wasn't in the trenches. I know Jimmy'south no dope, clearly. Merely I was like 'fuck this," he said.
Apple did not immediately respond to PCMag'southward request for comment.
Planet of the Apps debuted in June 2022 to lackluster reviews and ran for 10 episodes. The show is basically Shark Tank for apps: entrepreneurs take 60 seconds to pitch their apps to four celebrity advisors. PCMag'southward Chandra Steele, who watched the testify and then y'all don't take to, said "40 minutes of discussions about products that are best viewed on a smartphone screen is not exactly must-see TV."
